Principal
Mrs. Dyan Pope

Greetings!
What an honor to serve as the Lead Learner of Highland Elementary School where the treasures of the scholarly pirates are bountiful. As your Principal, it is inspiring to be part of a Public School that not only provides rigor and innovation with academics for all students, but holds to the core values of Passion, Kindness, Integrity, Resilience & Teamwork that support the mission to inspire and prepare students to make a positive impact on their families, communities, and world.
The path that led me to Highland is steeped with experience that comes from being a National Board Certified NC 8th Grade ELA Teacher with teaching license certifications in K-12 Academically Gifted and Social Studies. I hold a Masters in School Administration and Curriculum Design. My trainings have included, but are not limited to, NC Distinguished Leadership Practice, Sheltered Instruction for At-Risk Populations with a NC Coaching Certification for educators across North Carolina, Leader in Me, AVID, RTI, Co-Teaching, Working on the Work, and Capturing Kids Hearts. My educational journey includes studies and graduations from Western Harnett High School, Sandhills Community College, Campbell University, and UNC Pembroke. Family is extremely important to me and my blessings in life include 6 grandchildren that my husband and I absolutely adore. We also have a special place in our hearts for our rescue furbaby Luke aka Bubba!
Through all of my accomplishments, I can say that educating children with a family of teachers, support staff, parents, and community members is the pinnacle of my career. I am excited that I am now part of the vision of Highland Elementary School where the partnership with parents and community helps children discover their gifts and make a positive difference in the world!
I look forward to this school year and the positive contributions that we will make as a team to continue to sail successfully by remaining #PirateStrong!
