Meet the Teacher

Mrs. Dot Ross-Vaughn

Mrs. Dot Ross-Vaughn

Biography

In my first life, I was a Medical Technologist for 22 years. I went to Midlands Technical College, S.C. and received an Associate Degree in Medical Technology. I wanted to further my education and went to the University of South Carolina and received a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. I decided to go back to school to become a teacher after going on a Medical Missions trip to Peru. I wanted to pursue my true passions - visual arts and teaching, so I returned to the University of South Carolina and received a Master in Teaching Art Education. Since then, I have become National Board Certified in Arts Education. I am in year 22 of teaching and love what I do. I knew I was always meant to be a teacher because from the earliest time I can remember I lined my dolls on the steps and taught them by drawing and writing on my chalkboard! The best part about teaching art is when I'm demonstrating "how to" and I look up at the kids, their eyes are glued to the board and they have that "Aha moment" look!

My philosophy is "You are never to old to keep learning."

"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away."  - Pablo Picasso
