Practice at Home
Every WHMS Band Student is expected to practice their instrument at home. 30 minutes a day, seven times a week, would be ideal, but is not always realistic. The more you practice your instrument, the better you will play and perform. Here are some tips to get you started!
Find a dedicated area in your home to practice your instrument everyday
A chair and metal folding music stand will help you practice proper posture and playing position
Set a dedicated time everyday after school to practice your instrument at home
Limit distractions (such as electronics)
Play long tones
Play lip slurs (brass)
Play scales
Play exercises from your Essential Elements Book or Habits of a Successful Musician Book
Play concert music, pep band music, jazz band music, etc.
Play music you want to play
Have fun
