Meet The Teacher

I am excited to welcome you to my class! My name is Justin Josey. I am an 8th-grade math and Science teacher here at Western Harnett Middle School. This year will be my 8th year teaching. I started my teaching career at Harnett Central Middle, teaching 7th-grade math and one year of a combination of math and science. After three years of teaching at HCMS, I changed schools to teach only 7th-grade math at Highland Middle School. While at Highland Middle School, I completed my administration internship. I returned back to Harnett Central Middle School and taught 8th grade math for two years, and a section of Math 1. I am excited to be home with the Cardinals finally.

I graduated from Campbell University in 2017, where I studied Middle Grades Education with a dual primary focus in Math and Science. While there, I was an Algernon-Sydney Sullivan Scholar and received the Campbell School of Education Professional Education Award for 2017. Since my undergraduate degree program, I have also worked for Sylvian Learning Centers and Harnett County Schools. In addition, I have been a part of the NC and National Homework study and worked with Harnett Central Middle School to establish their Multi-Tiered Structure of Support (MTSS) to be ready to be implemented for the 2020-2021 school year.

I returned to Campbell University during the COVID-19 pandemic for my Master’s Degree in School Administration. This knowledge has allowed me to understand better and address my students' unique environment and needs as well as the laws that govern all decision-making regarding the school.

My philosophy is that math is just another language. No one is truly bad at it; instead, they just need more practice. Student success is achieved through practice; we will solve a lot of word problems and practice problems in class. Students will be challenged. My class is challenging. However, as long as you do the work, you will never fail. Science is a great class to have as we will get to explore and experiment with the world around us.

Outside of school, I am happily married. My wife, Kimberly Josey, is a 6th-grade math and science teacher at Western Harnett Middle School. We met while in the same math class at Campbell University. We have one son, he is less than a year old, but his personality is amazing. My hobby outside of school is traveling. I have been to 4 countries (5 if you count the British Virgin Isle). I enjoy hiking, listening to music, playing video games, and spending time with my wife.

I look forward to getting to meet you this year. We will have a great year.
