Rising 9th graders had a fun-filled day of learning during #SummerBridge at Western Harnett High School.
The students in Ms. Kelly’s math class went on a summer road trip without ever leaving the classroom! They simulated going to 17 locations nationwide, traveling 18,651 miles. The virtual adventure taught students how to calculate midpoints, distances, and using that data to estimate fuel costs.
In Mr. Lindhout’s STEM class engineered solar ovens using recycled pizza boxes, foil, plastic wrap, and other materials. Students made s’mores by converting the sun’s light energy into heat energy through absorption, insulation, and reflection.
In a friendly competition, they also launched bottle rockets to learn how air pressure created in a bottle containing water, affect the height it reaches.
I think it’s safe to say that they had a blast!
