Harnett County Schools has been celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth by learning about prominent figures and celebrating the many accomplishments and contributions by African Americans. At South Harnett Elementary School, they honor the past by inspiring present.
Within a glass showcase in the main hallway, is a Black History Month display. It highlights the achievements of some key figures in Black history. Front and center, is an array of books featuring Black characters.
Mrs. Querranda Royster-Herring, S.H.E.S. Library Media Coordinator and leadership intern says that representation matters “It is important for our children to see themselves in books and as main characters in stories”. She makes a deliberate effort to showcase books to reflect the various cultural celebrations throughout the year.
This is one of the many ways our educators support and inspire learners to become leaders. Join us as we continue to celebrate!
