Erwin Elementary School was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the annual Harnett County Schools Spelling Bee earlier today. 22 school winners from various elementary and middle schools within the district came together to demonstrate the power of words with their impeccable spelling skills.
We witnessed our scholars push their limits with every challenge word for over 20 rounds. We watched intensely during the spectacular showdown between finalists, Ethan Dunlap (Overhills Middle School) and Ella Butler (South Harnett Elementary School). In a thrilling finale, Ethan ultimately claimed the first-place title and emerged as the champion!
Ethan Dunlap will be eligible to compete at the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. We are extremely proud of Ethan and all of our competitors.
Spelling Bees benefit our students by showing them the value of education through competition and motivation. These experiences create an opportunity to enhance their cognitive development, public speaking skills, and boost confidence. Special thanks to the coordinators, judges, leadership, staff, and to everyone who played a part in making this event a success.
