Dawn Young Appointed Principal of Star Academy
LILLINGTON, NC – The Harnett County Board of Education is excited to announce that Dawn Young, who has been serving as Interim Principal, has been officially named Principal of Star Academy.
Ms. Young brings over 20 years of educational experience to this role, including extensive leadership expertise. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Managerial Economics from Fayetteville State University, two Master’s degrees in Education Administration and Curriculum & Instruction with a focus on Technology from Grand Canyon University, and an Educational Specialist degree in K-12 Leadership.
Throughout her career, Ms. Young has demonstrated a strong commitment to student success and staff development. She has previously served as Assistant Principal for 13 years and spent 11 years in the classroom. Her accolades include being named the 2020 Harnett County Schools Assistant Principal of the Year and earning recognition for her leadership as an All-American Conference Girls Basketball Coach of the Year in 2005.
In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Young has proudly served in the U.S. Army and remains an active member of organizations such as the NAACP and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She is passionate about fostering a positive school culture and ensuring all students thrive academically and personally.
