HARNETT COUNTY SCHOOLS PREPARES FOR LOCKDOWN AND EMERGENCY EVACUATION DRILL AT COATS-ERWIN MIDDLE AND COATS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

February 3, 2022

LILLINGTON, NC –  Harnett County Schools has scheduled a lockdown and emergency evacuation drill for students at Coats-Erwin Middle and Coats Elementary Schools on February 15-16, 2022. Students at both locations are familiar with the proper safety protocols in preparation for the lockdown and emergency drill. Harnett County Schools will conduct the lockdown and emergency evacuation drill with the help of the Harnett County Sheriff's Department, Coats Police Department, and Harnett County Emergency Services.

During the lockdown portion of the drill, students will be transported by bus to their reunification site. A reunification site is used if public safety officials require that a school building be evacuated off-site in an emergency. Students and staff members would be transported by bus to a designated parent-student reunification site. Parents will be informed of their child's reunification location via the school district's message system in the event of an emergency.

The lockdown and emergency evacuation drill at Coats-Erwin Middle and Coats Elementary Schools will be from 9:00 am - 11:00 am on February 15th and 16th. Harnett County Schools ask that parents and visitors avoid these campuses during the exercise drill time.

Student safety is paramount and will always be the number one priority in Harnett County Schools' operations. Scheduling safety drills are necessary to ensure students' safety and understanding of safety protocols during an emergency.
